Although today is officially the first day of summer, volunteers at PATH (People Attempting To Help) are thinking about the education of East Texas school children for the coming school year.  Today PATH kicks off the annual School Supply Train by collecting desperately needed school supplies for school children of Smith County.

There are around 22,000 kids in the Smith County area that depend upon the donated school supplies to help improve their learning environment while in school.  School Supply Train drop off locations will be set up throughout Tyler and Smith County for the month of July including Tyler Fire departments, participating congregations and other businesses.  Simply drop off new items and they’ll be distributed to all public schools in Smith County.

School supplies in need include the following:

24 –pack Crayola Crayons

Colored pocket folders with brads

Wide & College-Ruled Spiral Notebooks

Wide & College-Ruled Filler Paper

Fiskars Blunt-tip Scissors

Blue or black pens

Five-tab dividers

#2 Pencils

Wooden Rulers

Elmer’s Glue Sticks or liquid

2” Binders

Pink Beveled Erasers

Construction Paper

Highlighters

Crayola 3-pack Bold Color Markers

In addition to PATH’s School Supply Train, there are 2 major events planned to help out the drive – including the Fill The Bus campaign and Biker’s Rule 4 School motorcycle bike ride.

The Fill The Bus campaign will be held Saturday, July 7th 8a – 7p at Walmart on Hwy. 64 East in Tyler.  Bikers Rule 4 School will by held Saturday, July 21st at 10a, departing from Broadway Square Mall.

As always, you can make a monetary donation to the School Supply Train to help buy school supplies in bulk by donating online at pathhelps.org.
