Key matchup: Pleasant Grove rushing attack vs. Cuero defensive front. The Hawks' Wing-T offense has been difficult on opposing defenses for the better part of two seasons, and is the biggest reason PG is playing for its second consecutive state championship. Junior Bruce Garrett and senior James Wiggins have combined for more than 3,000 rushing yards this season and 27 touchdowns, and the duo is averaging a robust 6.9 yards per carry. When the Hawks are able to run the ball effectively, it's hard for opponents to have a big impact on offense themselves.

Cuero has one of the most explosive offenses in the state, as the Gobblers enter Friday's title game averaging more than 50 points per game. Cuero has a 2,000-yard passer, two receivers that have combined for 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns, and a running back duo that has accumulated 2,934 yards and 55 touchdowns. Cuero has so many weapons on offense that it's imperative for Pleasant Grove's offense to control the clock as much as possible. The fewer offensive possessions the Gobblers have, the less chance Cuero has of reaching its season average in points.

Don't be surprised if: Friday's title game is high-scoring. Few teams have been able to stop the offenses of both Pleasant Grove and Cuero this season, and so it seems unlikely that will be the case this week. With PG's penchant for draining the clock with long possessions, it's important that Cuero makes the most of every possession it gets. The Gobblers can't afford to have any turnovers or drives that end without points. Pleasant Grove can shorten games with ease, and Cuero must guard against having to play from behind against a Hawks offense that can dominate time of possession.
