Reports have been mixed about Randy Travis‘ recovery after he suffered a stroke last summer. Recent reports say that the singer is no longer able to speak.

A year after the stroke, people connected with Travis reveal that his speech has not yet come back. Fans were hopeful for a musical comeback — although some friends like Neal McCoy admitted that Travis may never fully recover, referring to his hands and mobility, not his speech. In February, Travis’ father claimed that he was getting his voice back little by little and that he was eager to return to work.

When the ‘Forever and Ever, Amen’ singer made an appearance at a Dolly Parton concert this spring, there was no mention of his inability to speak to the star, but sources say he didn’t say anything to the buxom blonde.

A rep for Travis tells TMZ that the singer’s inability to speak may not be permanent. In fact, the therapist cites three years as a possibility for the country star to return to the stage.

The six-time Grammy winner has millions of fans who are rooting for him during this long recovery. His condition hasn’t prevented the release of new music. Last October, he put out ‘Influence Vol 1: The Man I Am.’
