September 1 marks the day that new laws in Texas take effect. One in particular makes revenge porn illegal in the Lone Star State.

Revenge porn has become all the rage and a tragic trend. It's the publication of sexually-explicit photos, video or other material without the consent of the person in the material.  It is now punishable as a Class A Misdemeanor, which means up to two years in prison for those convicted of the crime.

Lives have been ruined by this practice, and it's good that there are now laws against it that will punish perpetrators. But remember: once it's out there on the internet, it stays there.

Err on the side of caution and do not film or take photos of sexual encounters. That goes for men and women alike. The trail of regret could be a long one, whether the person breaking the law is caught or not.
