In a time when jobs are scarce, a poultry company has their eyes on expanding into East Texas. According to a press release from the City of Palestine, Sanderson Farms is looking to build a poultry complex in Anderson County with a feed mill coming to Freestone County.

The plan is expected to be approved after the company’s stockholder meeting and is expected to hire approximately 1000 people after investing around $92 million in the construction of a new hatchery and processing plant that will be located in Anderson County with plans too for the company to construct a $32 million feed mill in Freestone County to support the new facility in Anderson County.

Wendy Ellis, the economic director for the City of Palestine says,

“This project is a long-term capital investment and will be the third complex of this nature built in Texas. Sanderson Farms has a reputation for being an outstanding corporate partner wherever they are located. The leadership in Waco and McLennan County has enjoyed an outstanding relationship with them and has seen positive impacts in their area from the complex that was built there. Along with the relationship with Sanderson Farms, we look forward to putting together a collaborative effort with our neighbors in Freestone County to provide what the company needs to build in this area.”

The Palestine Economic Development Corporation (PECD) says the company hasn’t set a construction date at this time. This intent to expand brings good news to a part of East Texas that needs jobs and new industry. For more details on the proposed expansion project check out the PECD website.
