The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed to Dallas County health officials that the mosquito-borne Zika virus has been transmitted sexually in Texas.

It appears that the patient in question contracted the virus after having sexual contact with someone who had just returned from a country where the Zika virus was in full-effect.

This is only the third documented case of the virus being spread by sexual contact.  The last case was confirmed in 2013.

The Zika virus is not life threatening and generally resolves itself in just a few weeks with medical attention.  The primary concern, however, is the virus being spread to pregnant women where it might cause birth defects.
