Time and distance will stretch the fabric of any relationship. Time, distance and fame … that can be a back breaker. However, 20-year-old Joseph Dominick doesn’t seem concerned about losing his famous girlfriend while she sings for her television life on the ‘American Idol’ stage. He’s been with Skylar Laine for three years — long enough to know that a woman needs some space.

“This is Skylar’s time, and I don’t want her worried about me,” Dominick tells the Jackson Clarion Ledger. “That’s the last thing she needs right now. I want her focused on going as far as she can. Plus, I knew all along singing is what she wanted to do.”

OK ladies, raise your hand if you just fell in love with this nursing student from Brandon, Miss.

The couple began dating when the then senior asked the freshman singer to their high school’s homecoming dance. These days, they live a life right out of a country song. Mud riding, deer hunting, work at the family diner and long drives in his pickup truck. The Clarion Ledger reports that they even have a song — Tracy Lawrence‘s ‘Paint Me a Birmingham.’

“She texted me (last Thursday) after the show and told me she missed me and couldn’t wait to see me,” Dominick says. “I’m happy because she’s happy.”

Recently, Dominick helped put a sign up over the Beatty Street Grocery sign that reads “Vote For Skylar Laine on ‘American Idol.’” Ever since Laine’s stint on television, the family store in a town of approximately 16,000 has been getting a lot more traffic. Dominick says he hasn’t been able to afford a plane ticket to California yet, but he’s working on it.

“I really don’t care about going to the show or any of that stuff. I just want to give her a hug and tell her how proud I am of her.”
