The Aurora Alien Encounter is coming to the small town of Aurora, just northwest of Fort Worth, this weekend.

The event is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday (April 16) at the MD Resort in Aurora with alien themed entertainment and education to mark the 118th anniversary of the extraterrestrial encounter.

For those unfamiliar, in 1897, the Dallas Morning News reported that a UFO had crashed on Judge J.S. Proctor's property. In the story, it is said that the ship crashed into his windmill, broke into many pieces and killed the pilot. The remains were described as badly disfigured.

A Mr. T.J. Weems, who was a United States signal service officer and an authority on astronomy, said that the pilot was a native of Mars.

Papers were found that supposedly showed the pilot's travels but were written in hieroglyphics that couldn't be deciphered.

The pilot was given a proper burial in the town's cemetery and townsfolk gathered pieces of the wreckage.

Since this time, people who heard of this story have come to the town to see the burial site and look for any remaining wreckage.

Amanda Smith, a member of Aurora's Historical Preservation Society, got some people of the town together and worked on putting together this festival to raise money to update their downtown area.

Author Jim Marrs has written about the alien encounter and will speak during the event. Also, Travis Walton, who claims to have been abducted in 1975 and his story is the basis for the movie Fire In The Sky, will speak.
