Smith Co Officer Injured While Transporting Inmates

TYLER - A Smith County Deputy and two inmates were taken to the hospital this morning following a traffic accident in Tyler.

Police say the two vehicle wreck happened around 6:20 a.m. today at the intersection of Gentry Parkway and Palace streets. It's unclear at this time how the wreck occurred.

Smith County Chief Deputy Bobby Garmon tells us the inmates were being transported from the low risk facility to the main jail Downtown when the wreck occurred.

Deputy Justin Jordan and the two inmates were transported to the hospital where they were treated and released.

Garmon said both inmates assisted in getting deputy Jordan out of the squad car after the accident.

Tyler Man Shot at a Party

TYLER - Police are looking for a person who dropped off a shooting victim at the hospital early Monday morning and then drove off.

Police say the victim, Kertral Damon Murphy, 18, suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back and was in surgery. Police said the shooting took place at a party in the area of W. Erwin and Glenwood around 2:06 a.m.

Police were advised by hospital employees that Murphy was dropped off at the emergency room in a tan or gold colored vehicle with tinted windows.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Woman Held at Gunpoint While Walking her Dog

TYLER - On Saturday, April 21, 2012 at approximately 8:10 a.m.,officers responded to the area of Donnybrook and Second in reference to an aggravated assault.  Officers met with a female victim who told police she was walking her dog when she was approached by a Hispanic male who pulled up next to her and pulled a gun on her and advised her to get in the car.

The victim advised that she refused to get into the car and ran to a nearby house for help.  The suspect then drove off.  The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic male driving a white four door car.  Officers have no further information at this time.  The case is under investigation.

Judge Denies Bond for Texas Nurse accused in Baby theft

CONROE, Tx. — Bond has been denied for a nurse accused of fatally shooting a young mother and then kidnapping the woman’s newborn.

Verna McClain did not speak at a Monday bond hearing in Conroe.

Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon argued the 30-year-old nurse committed a cold, calculated and premeditated murder. Defense attorney E. Tay Bond had asked for a bond of $100,000 or less for McClain.

The shooting last week outside a pediatric center north of Houston killed 28-year-old Kala Golden. Her 3-day-old son was abducted but found safe hours later with McClain's sister.

Investigators believe McClain was desperate for a baby after suffering a miscarriage.
