One person is dead following a standoff with a Smith County SWAT team.

From KLTV 7 News, Smith County Deputies went to a residence in the county's west side in connection with a missing persons case that dated back to 2013. When officers couldn't reach the suspect after knocking on his door they sought a search warrant. The 61 year old suspect was then contacted by phone by law enforcement and overheard a gun shot while on the phone with them. He said it was an accident and then there was a second shot a few minutes later and officers lost contact with him. Officers on scene then noticed smoke coming from the second floor.

Local fire departments responded to the fire on County Road 1238, near the intersection of SH 31 and Toll 49, but were unable to save the home. The Smith County Fire Marshal's Office in on scene now investigating the fire and the ATF will be on scene tomorrow.

This is a developing story and will bring you updates as they are available.
