George Strait has already released nearly 40 albums — and scored more number one hits than any other artist, in any genre, ever — and he isn’t slowing down yet.
The country legend has set September 6 as the date for his next release, titled ‘Here for a Good Time,’ announced the 11-song track listing, and opened up pre-orders for fans.
With 2011 more than half over — and the summer concert season winding down — Billboard has tallied up the totals for the year’s biggest tours so far, and a number of country artists are going strong.
U2 leads the list, with a nearly $175 million gross, with the top five rounded out by Roger Waters ($114 million), Bon Jovi ($107 million), Lady Gaga ($72 million), and Usher ($70 million). And the year’s biggest country tours? Kenny Chesney (No. 9, $25 million) and the George Strait/Reba pairing (number 15, $17.5 million).
George Strait is a brilliant, talented country superstar that has released an unprecedented 89 singles, won over 60 prestigious awards including the CMA Male vocalist of the year and the CMA Entertainer of the year numerous times. If you’ve ever seen George Strait live, you know what a thrill that is. As we conclude out tribute to ‘King’ George for this week, I thought we could highlight some the great live performances from the George Strait 'Artist of The Decade' TV special. Enjoy!
One of George Strait's best selling albums 'Pure Country,' led to the big-screen debut of 'King' George. The movie is a familiar tale of a star returning to his roots. Strait plays Dusty Chandler, one of the hottest performers in country music. Dusty feels that his elaborate stage show is overwhelming his music, a suspicion confirmed one night when he forgets several bars of a chart-topping hit and his fans don't even notice. Disillusioned, Dusty tells his manager Lula (Lesley Ann Warren) and best buddy Earl (John Doe) that he's taking a break.
As we continue with our tribute to George Strait, I though I would start from the beginning. George Strait was born on May 18, 1952, in Poteet, Texas, the son of a junior high school teacher who also owned and operated a ranch that had been in the Strait family for nearly 100 years. When Strait was a child, his mother left the family, taking her daughter but leaving behind her sons with the father. During his childhood, he would spend his weekdays in town and his weekends on the ranch. Strait began playing music as a teenager, joining a rock 'n' roll garage band.
I am a sucker for George Strait's early work! It makes sense, I'm a product of the 80's so I have my favorites from that decade! In 1984 George released the platinum album 'Right or Wrong,' which gave us the hits, 'Let's Fall To Pieces,' and 'You Look So Good In Love.' In 1986 I fell in love with 'Number 7.' This was actually his 7th MCA album. 'Nobody In His Right Mind' and 'It Ain't Cool To Be Crazy About You,' went #1 and King George won his second CMA Male Vocalist of The Year . I was still a 'baby' in the radio business back then! What a thrill to get to spin George Strait on the airwaves!
This week I've chosen George Strait or 'King George' as he is lovingly called by his adoring fans. There is no dispute that George Strait has earned the name 'King George.' 'ing George' has just released his 89th single! The uptempo 'Here For A Good Time!' The Country Music Hall of Fame member, whose legendary career boasts 57 No. 1 singles, continues to maintain his record of having more chart-topping hits than any other artist of any genre. All hail the King!
George Strait defends his title with ease on yesterday's Daily Duel. King George received over 77% of the vote in defeating the new song from Big & Rich.
Now, George will defend his championship against the new song from Brett Eldredge. He had great success with his last heart-touching song 'Raymond'.

If I had a dime for every time I kicked myself in the seat of my pants for my actions in the Spring of 1981...I'd have enough money to repair the toe of my boot which has become so damaged because of kicking myself so much.
