Granger Smith is to YouTube in Texas Music what Andy Samberg is to it everywhere else. Besides writing and singing hit songs, Granger and his band have a reputation for developing characters and funny songs, of which they make videos -- then upload 'em to YouTube. But Granger's latest country boy character may prove to be a game-changer for the guys.
Alright y'all, a new week means a new music challenge. This week we've got two of your favorite Texas bands duke-ing it out for your affection. Granger Smith's "That's What I Do With It" vs. Whiskey Myer's latest "Anna Marie." Click through listen to both and vote for your favorite.
Last year right around this time Granger Smith released "Sleeping on the Interstate" which became yet another Top 10 single for the Aggie. To accompany the 2011 release, Granger and his band walked and literally slept on the interstate. They made the 100 mile trek from south Austin to Fort Hood to show support and gratitude for our boys and girls in uniform and of course to draw attention to the new single. Well, hopefully his blisters ain't fell off yet cause this year Granger's doin' it again.
On the heels of his "Live at The Chicken" release -- his first live album, our pal Granger Smith stopped by The RTX Studios and as expected he had a great time. We had 5 Questions for the Aggie, we talked about his movie star wife (who is fresh off starring in Dennis Quaid's latest flick) and we of course played some Granger music, check it all out!
Rita Ballou joins the RTX Crew each week for All the Dirt in Red Dirt and this is what she had for us on last week’s episode of Radio Texas Live. Rita and I re-enact Miranda Lambert's SVU appearance, we talk about the Texas base band that was up for a Grammy and about Granger Smith's brand new LIVE album out now, plus more! And I realize I am once again extremely late posting last week's Dirt so some of the news isn't really news anymore but let's get into it anyway.
If he weren't married, he's the guy you wouldn't mind your sister dating. That is until you find out how much he loves to make videos -- I believe he has more music videos than singles to radio and I just don't know how I feel about a dude dating my sister who makes that many videos, he's a good guy but geez enough videos already Granger, I can't even fully appreciate the last video before he's out with a new one (click here to view his youtube channel).
We've got some great new music from The Texas/Red Dirt Scene coming out in February. Each of these albums can actually be pre-ordered right now at LoneStarMusic.com and as if you needed anymore incentive to order now, many of them promise autographed copies for pre-orders. Now lets see who's giving us new music next month.
Happy New Year -- the very first RTX Sunday Video of 2012 belongs to Granger Smith and a beautiful tribute to his grandfather. Great video and song -- grab a tissue, ya big softie and press play on "5 More Minutes."
Wow, 2011's been a big year in Texas and Red Dirt Music -- we started out the year with quite a few late night TV appearances (which continued throughout the year) Granger Smith was literally "Sleeping on The Interstate" there were multiple Live at Billy Bob's recordings, Pat Green's back -- if you hadn't heard, Josh Abbott and Brandon Rhyder teamed up to to help out with Texas wildfires and despite all this and more it was undoubtedly the year of Eli Young Band's "Crazy Girl." Recap 2011 in it's entirety after the jump
