This is not a drill. American Girl is turning 35 and to celebrate they are taking it back to the beginning. If you were a child of the 90's, or a parent during that time, you were part of the American Girl world. From rushing to the mailbox to grab the latest catalog, to special visits to an American Girl for tea with your doll...

For at least a generation, Barbie has been a controversial figure. Mattel wants to emphasize her independence and her range of careers, but most people who look at her just see a body. Traditionally, a body with huge breasts, a very narrow waist, and feet that can only wear high heels. A body that is available in a brown version, but that everyone knows is meant to be white. Mattel is now trying something bigger and newer with Barbie. The company has introducing three new body types; in addition to Original Barbie, she now comes in Curvy, Petite, and Tall. Mattel had already been working on being more inclusive of skin colors and hair types, so those factors combine with these new bodies to create a far wider variety of Barbie possibilities.

For 43 years, Barbie and Ken were inseparable.  Then, in 2004, just before Valentine's no less, they broke up.  Most said it was a mutual decision, but I have my doubts - I think Barbie was looking for some space. However, in 2006, Ken underwent a makeover, looking younger, hipper (not the picture you see in the post certainly), and he learned to country dance - I think.  Barbie took notice. Read
