This morning in Lindale at 4am the smell of smoke was faint but still noticeable by the time I got in the car to leave for work at 7:15am the smoke smell was stronger. The strong winds this weekend turned things from bad to worse when as local area Fire Fighters tried to keep local residents safe
For those of us who have grown up in East Texas, we know that Tyler can be kind of dull on the weekends. But if you do a little research like we did, you'd be surprised at the things actually going on around town. So to spare you from sitting at home being a couch potato all weekend long, we put together a list of things going on around East Texas.
In case you haven't noticed, the city of Tyler has added many new restaurants this year. Well, it's not over yet. Next to open in Tyler is the Corner Bakery Cafe. The restaurant is scheduled to open Monday, October 24th. More after the jump.
On Saturday, Aug. 27, the newly renovated Liberty Hall will host the The East Texas All-Star Showcase. This showcase will feature performances by eight local bands as well as as local comedy group. If you are a big supporter of local East Texas talent, this is something you DO NOT want to miss. More after the jump.
The Tyler/Longview area, along with many other local East Texas communities, are full of magnificent wooded areas. A wonderful variety of trees really show their beauty when Fall comes about and the leaves begin to change. N
Barbeque is serious business here in Texas. Don't think that throwing a chunk of meat on a grill is the same as BBQ'ing. Barbequing is a method of cooking meat in a slow, well marinated, rubbed charcoal/wood smoked way to enhance the flavor and tenderize the meat. Anyone new to Tyler or visiting needs to treat themselves to the array of flavors at Stanly's BBQ will stun the unsuspecting taste buds of all patrons. Taste tidbits after the jump.
East Texas is rich with history. From the oil fields in Kilgore, to the beautiful roses that fill the Tyler Rose Garden. East Texans are proud of their heritage and it shows! It was difficult to choose from so many historical landmarks, so these are just a few of the highlights
"Its the most wonderful time of the year" this line from a Christmas carol always plays in my ears as I get started shopping for school supplies. Being a good mom I try very hard to be frugal but not cheap.(It's a
I am not sure if it is the extreme heat in Texas that causes the roads to deteriorate so quickly but I have noticed that there are certain roads that I need a vehicle with really good suspension in order to not bottom out and leave under parts of my car scattered all over Smith County.
The old part of Tyler on East Line by the train depot where the really neat old bricks are no longer working as a road but rather as a washboard -- TxDot is repaving it making it a nice place to drive through history. East Texas road construction details after the jump.
Most of you know that I love NYC! So naturally I watch the Macy's spectacular Fourth of July Fireworks Display every year! Macy's Department store has this huge and impressive display on the Hudson river waterfront every year. I came across this interesting 'behind the scenes' look at the preparation of this awesome display on USAToday.com and thought you guys would enjoy it!
Fireworks are part of the classic Americana that surrounds the Fourth of July. Memories are made around sparklers and Roman candles. There's firework displays planned all across East Texas that promises to will light up the night this fourth of July!
