Texas Rangers Trading Ian Kinsler to Detroit for Prince Fielder

One of Major League Baseball's most intimidating hitters is about to be in Arlington.

Multiple outlets are reporting the Texas Rangers are set to trade second baseman Ian Kinsler to Detroit for Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder, undoubtedly the biggest splash made in the offseason since baseball season ended.

Fielder batted .279 with 25 home runs and 106 RBIs in 2013, while Kinsler hit .277 with 13 home runs and 72 RBIs for the Rangers. Last season was the first time since 2006 that Fielder, who had to approve the trade before it was completed, did not hit 30 home runs.

Fielder has belted 285 home runs in his nine-year career, and is a career .286 hitter with 870 RBIs. His 2013 numbers were the worst of his career and he struggled in the playoffs, but that could change with a favorable right field at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Texas will inherit the remainder of Fielder's massive nine-year, $214 million contract he signed with Detroit prior to the 2012 season. The Rangers will owe Fielder $138 million over the next seven years, as well as send $30 million to the Tigers as part of the trade.

Another player is factored into the trade, but has yet to be mentioned.

Detroit will take on the final four years of Ian Kinsler's five-year, $75 million deal he signed with Texas before this last season.

This looks to be the chance for Jurickson Profar to play second base full-time for Texas.
