A Houston student refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and has now been given two days of in-school suspension. As you can imagine, this has started up a lot of debate about the teen's First Amendment rights.

KHOU of Houston reported sophomore Mason Michalec, who attends Needville High School, said he refused because he is opposed to government spying. He went on to say he doesn't agree with any of the Internet laws either.

The 15-year-old has refused to stand for the Pledge for most of the year, but recently a teacher noticed his silent protest and insisted he stand for the Pledge of Allegiance in her classroom. Michalec refused and was written up and given the two day in-school suspension. On top of the suspension, the school principal warned him that he would face more suspensions if his protest continued.

So what do you think? Do you think the student should have been suspended? Was the student's First Amendment rights violated?
