Texas Students in Trouble for ‘Racist’ Fruit Basket Gift
Students at the Houston-area Atascocita High School presented some racist gifts before a football game against Summer Creek High School.
Fox San Antonio reports that seven students from Atascocita High School gave a gift that included a watermelon, a coconut, a pineapple and watermelon gum.
The Humble Independent School District said the gift was "inappropriate and lacked sportsmanship." The students are now facing disciplinary actions including suspension despite apologizing.
One student who was part of the group that sent the fruit basket told reporters that since she was "mixed," she didn't take offense. She said she didn't understand how someone else could be bothered by the gift.
Summer Creek High School have not commented on the situation.
