Most high school students are required to read Lois Lowry's 'The Giver.' The difference between this novel and many of the others on required reading lists is that students are usually interested in this one, and finally it's becoming a movie.

The novel focuses on a 12-year-old Jonas who lives in a utopian society where no one has knowledge or makes choices and where everyone lives according to "Sameness." When Jonas is assigned his job, he is given the position of "Receiver of Memory" which means that he is responsible for all of the knowledge of life prior to the transition to "Sameness."

Upon learning all of the things about how society used to be, Jonas is faced with the decision to either stay and live miserably knowing everything about society that his world is missing out on or to go out and leave everything he's ever known in search of more knowledge and life.

The movie is set to debut August 15, 2014 - including a star-studded cast of Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Alexander Skarsgard, Taylor Swift and more.
