It’s the central location that connects billions worldwide. The once-tiny website has spawned into the world’s most-trafficked website other than Google. And 2014 was a busy year for Facebook, which released a cool ‘Year in Review 2014′ feature showing the most talked-about topics on the social site for the year.

On Aug. 11, we lost one of our favorite actors, comedians and entertainers in Robin Williams. His suicide struck the hearts of millions of people around the world. He was one of the true on-screen and on-stage legends, and he’s still sorely missed.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

 

 

Young, old, famous, non-celebrity. Millions of people across the world raised awareness for ALS through the incredibly viral ALS Ice Bucket Challenge videos. People were challenged to dump ice-cold water on their head and donate to finding a cure for Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Super Bowl XLVIII

 

 

Seattle’s dominating 43-8 win over favored Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos struck a chord not just in the U.S., but worldwide. The game took nearly 70 percent of the United States market share that night, and a 30-second commercial cost nearly $4 million.
