A van carrying eight people veered out of control Monday on Interstate 30 in Bowie County killing three people including the driver of the van.

Department of Public Safety Troopers said a van driven by Heriberto Diaz-Flores, 34 of Dallas was traveling east on I-30 when he veered off the roadway, struck the center of the median and overcorrected flipping the vehicle several times.

Flores and several passengers were ejected from the van. Flores and two of his passengers, Jesus Alvarez, 18, and Raul E. Vega, 58 died at the scene. The remaining five passengers were transported by air and ground ambulances to area hospitals.

DPS says none of the van occupants including the driver were wearing seat belts.
