TSA Agent Spills Grandpa’s Ashes at Security Checkpoint + Laughs About It

Following my post from yesterday about TSA agents at JFK Airport leaving a metal detector unplugged, comes a story about another TSA agent in Florida. This agent was searching through the belongings of a man named John Gross, who was leaving Florida with the ashes of his late grandfather. His ashes were tightly sealed and clearly marked “Human Remains.”

A TSA agent was searching Gross’ bag and he told her to please be careful because his grandfather’s ashes were in his bag. The agent picked up the jar and opened it. The she proceeded to sift through the ashes with her finger and then guess what — yep — she spilled it! Gross says about a quarter to a third of the ashes spilled out onto the ground.

Get this: the TSA agent did not apologize. In fact, she started laughing.

TSA rules state that a crematory container in carry-on baggage must pass through the X-ray machine at the security check-point. In fact, the rules go on to say that human remains are to be opened under “no circumstances.”
