For more than twenty years the United Airlines logo has graced the ticket counter walls at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, but that will be changing April 4th when the airline discontinues service to the East Texas airport.

The decision to pull out of Tyler Pounds was a tough one with United Airlines citing the following reasons for discontinuing service:

  • light passenger numbers on flights to Houston
  • record low oil prices
  • drop in the number of available pilots

When the final flight leaves Tyler Pounds Regional Airport on April 4th, American Airlines will be the sole airline at the airport. However, United Airlines may return to Tyler Pounds when the oil industry recovers from its current economic downturn or there is more demand for flights from Tyler to the Houston area.
