Crime is an unfortunate part of our country, but some places are worse than others.

A new analysis has helped create a list of the most dangerous states in America. The study used data from 2012 measuring the number of violent crimes -- murders, rapes, robberies and assaults -- as well as figures measuring income and poverty levels, in addition to education statistics.

Tennessee has the unfortunate distinction of being the country’s most dangerous state, with 644 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
