With many areas in East Texas flooded, what should you not do. These tips and more come from the Weather Channel.

1. Do Not Drive Through Flood Waters

You don't know how deep the water is. As little as six inches of water can be dangerous.

2. Do Not Use Electricity in a Flooded House

If flood waters have reached electrical outlets you could be electrocuted. Also, because one part of your house is without power, doesn't mean the whole house is.

3. Play in Flood Waters

Do not wade in flood waters. The water could contain disease, sewage or dangerous animals such as snakes, fire ants or spiders.

5. Do Not Ignore Flood Warnings

Weather forecasts are always changing. Stay up to date on the forecast through severe weather.

7. Do Not Leave Utilities or Appliances plugged if Evacuated

If you leave your home, turn off the electricity to the house. Flood waters could cause a fire, causing even more damage.

8. Do Not Wear Improper Clothing

Flood water can be filled with germs, disease or sewage. Waders or other water attire are best, wearing shorts, t-shirts or other everyday clothing is not.

9. Do Not Leave Furniture or Other Important Items on a Lower Floor

If possible, move furniture or other personal items to a higher floor or attic.
