Hey girls - how many of you have always wanted to take a self defense class? I know, I have too. This time, let's actually do it. You never know when you might need to protect yourself or your family. As my Granny always said, "It's always better to be prepared Amy then not!"

Violence against women could be: domestic (which 95% of victims in domestic violence are women), stalking, sexual assault, sexual harassment even purse snatching.

That's why a growing number of women around the country are learning how to kick and punch their way out of the grip of violent crime, enrolling in self-defense classes in record numbers.

Hey girls, we need to know how to protect ourselves and our families! If you think that's something you would be interested in, well get all your friend girls together and check out the Tyler Parks and Recreation Department Women’s Self Defense Clinic.

The clinic is on Saturday, July 28 at the Glass Recreation Center, at 501 W. 32nd St. It gets underway at 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will be taught by Alex Jones, a fourth degree black belt in Go’Ju-Ryu Karate.

Here's what a representative of the Tyler Parks and Recreation Department had to say about the clinic:

“In today’s world, there is no reason why women should not be equipped with information when self-defense classes are available to help them become prepared,”  “With proper training, you will reduce your chances of being attacked and learn techniques to help against an attacker of any size.”

Girls you'll also learn other practical ways to avoid many potentially dangerous situations. With practice, these techniques will be easy to remember and use.

The cost is $25 per person and is available for women ages 14 and up. For more information or to register, please call the Glass Recreation Center at (903) 595-7271.
