Do you start your day off with a hot cup of coffee? Would it surprise you to learn that 64% of Americans drink at least one cup a day?

I believe it! It's rare to see someone in our office without a cup of coffee. We have coffee service, and keep it flowing all day long. So now that we've established that we all need 'the coffee,' let's talk facts.

All Coffee is Created Equal

Not so! Some brands of coffee come with more caffeine than others. If you feel like some coffee perks you up more than others, you're right. Starbucks has 20 milligrams of caffeine per ounce in its coffee compared to McDonald's who has less than half that amount at 9.1 mg per fluid ounce.

Coffee is your New Addiction

While coffee contains caffeine, and caffeine can stimulate addiction, letting it go is much easier than you may think. Caffeine dependency is not equivalent to narcotics, and your withdrawl symptoms should only last a couple of days.

Coffee will Bust your Hangover

Nope, sorry. I hate to break it to you. It might give you a little kick from the caffeine, but you're not getting off that easy. Drink lots of water, and get your body moving.

Coffee Improves Weight Loss

Negative. Coffee does have caffeine which does stimulate your metabolism, but not in the same way that exercise does. You've got to get moving.

You Won't be Able to Sleep at Night if you Drink Coffee in the Afternoon

You'll sleep fine. Coffee's stimulating effects generally flush out of the body within four to seven hours, so if you have a coffee post lunch, you should be aces by bed time.
