Women OF Country

Carrie Underwood summed up the Girls' Night Out: Superstar Women of Country concert perfectly when she told the audience, "I don't know what country music would do without them, and I don't know what the world would do without them." More after the jump.

Indeed, eight of country music's most prominent women -- the Judds, Miranda Lambert, Loretta Lynn, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles and Underwood -- were given a night to shine on Monday (April 4), just one night after the ACM Awards. Taped at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the special will air on CBS on April 22.

Blake Shelton told Lambert she was "a product of the people you grew up with," then introduced a funny clip of friends from her hometown of Lindale, Texas, talking about what she's really like.

Each of these women have had a positive impact on my life through their music.

Loretta Lynn, who overcame  poverty by using  sheer determination,  to become a great Country Superstar and in part, paving the way for many women to do the same.

I will never forget the first time I saw the Judd's in concert. It was 1989, and I was on the first date with the man who would eventually become my husband.

Then there's Reba. The feisty and beautiful red-head who's voice can do things I never heard a singer do before. Reba made it 'cool' to be REAL country! My favorite Reba tune has got to be 'Whoever's In New England.' Hauntingly beautiful. Reba built an empire and is an example of what women can achieve. Thanks Reba!

I'll never forget the first time I played Martina McBride's song 'Independence Day' on the radio. This was extremely emotional for me and the first time I had ever heard a song deal with the subject of abuse. She sang it with out apologies and took it all the way to number #1.

I watched this next artist on season 4 of American Idol. She eventually won the title and went on to be a huge star. Carrie Underwood is an example to young women, that with hard work and determination, you can be whatever you want to be! Carrie's cover of country legend, Randy Travis' song 'I Told You So,' has got to be my favorite song of hers. Still,  to this day I get 'teary eyed' when I hear it.

Miranda Lambert from Lindale, Texas  encompasses all that country is! Grit, determination and talent. She has a distinct voice that keeps it's country roots! I wish more of the young country singers were like Miranda. My favorite Miranda song, 'Me and Charlie Talking!'

Country fans set your DVR's and don't miss this special.
