WOW! Sam’s Club Opens Texas Location with NO Cashier Lines
When you go into a store, do you typically choose to checkout via the self-service checkout lines or use the in-person cashier lines? Sam's Club is re-opening one of its popular Texas locations but it will have a different twist on it. According to the company, the new location will not have cashier lines and will only be self-checkout.
Many people find self-checkouts frustrating and prefer traditional cashier lines. For some, self-checkouts can be confusing or difficult to use, especially when technology glitches or items don’t scan properly. Customers may also feel rushed or stressed when handling their transactions, especially if they have a lot of items or need help with issues like coupons or age-restricted products. In contrast, cashier lines allow shoppers to interact with a trained employee who can quickly handle the transaction, making the experience smoother and more personalized. Some people simply enjoy the human connection and trust cashiers to get things right.
Sam’s Club is opening a groundbreaking new store in Grapevine, Texas, without traditional checkout lanes. Set to open later this month, the store will require customers to use an app called Scan & Go to shop and pay. Instead of waiting in line to check out, customers will scan items with their smartphones as they move through the store and complete their purchases in the app.
This store is reopening after being damaged by a tornado nearly two years ago. Now, it will be a hub for innovation, introducing new tech that may spread to other locations across the U.S.
This innovative setup marks the first Sam’s Club location to fully embrace the Scan & Go technology. The Walmart-owned company is transforming how shoppers experience the store. In place of cash registers, the store will feature displays for online-only items, like large Christmas trees and diamonds, according to a report from CNBC.
The Grapevine location is also designed to handle eCommerce more efficiently. The space for workers to prepare curbside pickup and home delivery orders is about four times larger than in typical stores. Sam’s Club has been using artificial intelligence (AI)--powered checkout systems in some of its other stores, but this new Texas store will serve as a testing ground for even more advanced technology.
