Texas Cities Among Worst For Fatal Drunk Driving Accidents
Texas has a huge problem with drunk driving. Forbes published a story earlier in 2024 ranking the states with the most drunken driving -- Texas ranked #3. They gave us the numbers on how many people were involved in drunk driving accidents, but I wanted to know where in Texas you are most likely to find someone drinking while driving.
Here are the Texas cities & counties that have the most drunk drivers
The Patterson Law Group did a study and found out which counties have the highest amount of people arrested for DWIs. They found that Hildago County had the most injuries, with 53 injuries stemming from 43 total accidents. The county with the MOST accidents was Harris County -- 52 accidents resulting in 20 injuries.
Some contenders for the, "most dangerous counties," included Bexar, Montgomery, Nueces, Dallas & El Paso.
But that's just ONE study. Another one from van Der Veen, Hartshorn, Levin & Lindheim showed the 75 U.S. cities with the highest rate of fatal drunk driving accidents from 2018 to 2022. Not surprisingly, Texas made the list.
In fact, 15 Texas cities all made the list, meaning 20% of the list was from the Lone Star State. Here are the top 10 WORST cities from Texas for drunk driving -- all cracked the top 50:

The other Texas cities that missed the top 50 but still made the list included:
- Corpus Christi, Texas ranked #51
- Richardson, Texas ranked #53
- Austin, Texas ranked #65
- Waco, Texas ranked #69
- and McAllen, Texas ranked #71
The point's pretty clear...it doesn't matter if it's a big city or a small town, do NOT drink and drive. Get a designated driver, an Uber, or someone to drive you home. Don't hurt yourself or anyone on the road.
