October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, I am pretty sure someone in your circle has been touched by this silent killer. Thankfully today we have the medical knowledge that this killer can be identified and patients properly diagnosed so they can receive the proper treatment to help rid their bodies of this disease and hopefully never return.

Each year thousands of East Texans converge upon Bergfeld Park in early May for the annual Komen Tyler Race For The Cure as they run, walk and sleep in to help find a cure for breast cancer. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the race here in Tyler.

It's sad to say, but most of us have had breast cancer affect us in some way. Whether it's a friend, family member or even yourself, this disease affects more than 220,000 women each year and 40,000 of those women will die.

Robin Roberts is not only a daily fixture each morning on ABC's Good Morning America, but she is so beloved. She has been through so much with her family and her public fight with breast cancer. She is true and real. People can relate to Robin and they adore her! Well, Robin  made her final appearance (for awhile) as she begins her extended medical leave to start her treatment for MDS.

E! News correspondent Giuliana Rancic announced her battle with breast cancer back in October, and now she’s going in for a double mastectomy sometime next week.
