Tragedy struck in the early hours of Wednesday morning after four vehicles collided on Interstate 20 near Highway 155 in Smith County.

According to KLTV, the wreck happened just after 1 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-20 near mile marker 567, and involved a passenger vehicle, a dually pick-up truck towing a trailer, a salt water tanker truck and a truck tractor towing a box trailer.

Three people died in the collision.

The exact details of the wreck are unknown, but large flames and small explosions were reported by witnesses, and debris littered the road.

Ten fire units from three departments responded and worked to clear the scene.
