John Nash, the world-renowned mathematician who inspired the movie 'A Beautiful Mind,' was killed in a car accident Saturday, along with his wife.

Nash was 86. His wife, Alicia, was 82.

The two were ejected from the taxi in which they were riding when the taxi driver lost control while trying to pass another car on the New Jersey Turnpike.

A friend told NJ.com the two were on their way home from the airport after they returned from Norway, where Nash received a prestigious mathematics award.

Nash, known for his work in Game Theory, was portrayed by Russell Crowe in the Best Picture-winning 'A Beautiful Mind,' which told the story of Nash's brilliance as a mathematician while struggling as a paranoid schizophrenic.

Nash, who taught at Princeton University, shared the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994.
