Generous talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, gave four firefighters from Boston, a trip on a Caribbean cruise for rescuing a dog from an icy river. But because of state ethic laws, the firefighters have to forfeit their gift. According to The Boston Globe, Wellesley Fire Chief Richard DeLorietoldsent the cruise vouchers back because state law prohibits firefighters from accepting gifts worth $50 or more.

DeGeneres gave the firefighters the tickets and life vests for saving a golden retriever named Crosby. The dog had chased a squirrel onto thin ice and fell into the Charles River.

The fire department allowed the show to pay for plane tickets to the show and they got to keep the life vests.
