The Sound of Music is a beloved musical that is loved by many. Now NBC is bringing the show to TV in 2013.. And it gets better, Carrie Underwood will star as Maria Von Trapp, the role originally played by Julie Andrews.  I'm such a Broadway show fan, I can hardly wait!  The show will be based on the original Broadway musical and produced by the same crew that brought the Broadway drama,"Smash" to NBC along with the movie musicals, "Chicago" and "Hairspray".

“The Sound of Music,” is set back in pre-WWII Austria, and based on the true love story of Maria von Trapp, an aspiring nun who leaves the abbey to become a governess for the widower Captain von Trapp’s seven children. Maria falls in love with the Captain and his children, finding herself questioning her religious calling of becoming a nun.

It premiered on Broadway in 1959, where it broke box-office records and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The 1965 film version won the Best Picture Oscar. The score is was written by the brilliant, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II and includes the great classic songs “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and “So Long, Farewell.”

Congratulations Carrie!

Everybody share your favorite song from the musical, I know you have one!
