In the NFL, this is the day most teams make major changes and part ways with their coaches who may not have lived up to expectations.

The Washington Redskins had high hopes with Mike Shanahan, but the Redskins fired their coach Monday. Washington had a disappointing 3-13 season, including a sub-par year for Robert Griffin III just a year after he was named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Also on the coaching merry-go-round, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired Greg Schiano, while Jim Schwartz of the Detroit Lions lost his gig after a mid-season slide.

Leslie Frazier of the Minnesota Vikings and Rob Chudzinski of the Cleveland Browns also lost their jobs.

So far, Rex Ryan of the New York Jets and Jason Garrett of the Dallas Cowboys are still afloat, but we'll see what happens ...
