James Gandolfini, the star of 'The Sopranos' -- considered by many to be one of the best TV shows of all-time -- died today in Italy, according to a report from TMZ.

Gandolfini, who according to TMZ suffered a stroke, was 51 years old.

He was a prominent, talented Hollywood actor who appeared in movies such as "True Romance," "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Get Shorty," but he reached superstardom by playing Tony Soprano in HBO's series "The Sopranos."

Gandolfini was in Italy to attend the 59th Taormina Film Festival in Sicily, according to TMZ.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah, his 10-month old daughter and teenaged son.
