Clouds of Sils Maria‘ is a French film that has been making the film festival circuit and generating a lot of buzz about actress Kristen Stewart.

I first took notice of Stewart in Twilight, as did most of the world. The success of it and subsequent films quickly forced the child actress to grow up into a an A-list celebrity. Almost overnight, she was everywhere. Covering magazines, rumors of romance on the set with co-star Robert Pattinson, and their eventual break-up.

Aside from the Twilight Saga, Stewart has taken on roles with a feminist spirit. She was the gallant heroine of Snow White and the Huntsman and she played the free-spirited Mary-Lou in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s ‘On the Road,’ and legendary rocker Joan Jett in ‘The Runaways.’

In ‘Clouds of Sils Maria’ we will see her as a powerful persuader. Her character Val is the assistant to a veteran actress played by Juliette Binoche. The film, which debuted last year in France, and is expected to open in the states on April 10.

The video shows an interview from the New York Film Festival with Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart about their roles. Stewart talks about originally getting the offer to take the part that Chloe Grace Moretz eventually accpeted. The part of Jo-Ann Ellis, Stewart describes was not something she cared to live through.

The film description from the NYFF is a beautiful synopsis:

Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche) is a middle-aged actress who soared to stardom in her twenties in a play called Maloja Snake, in which she created the role of a ruthless young woman named Sigrid who engages in a power game with her older boss. Now an established international actress, Maria is considering the role of the older woman in a heavily promoted revival, with an infamous young superstar (Chloë Grace Moretz) as Sigrid. Maria and her savvy personal assistant (Kristen Stewart) prepare for the production at a secluded spot in the Swiss Alps, in a series of stunning scenes that are the beating heart of Olivier Assayas’s brilliant new film. What begins as a chronicle of an actress going through the paces of celebrity culture (fashion shoots, official dinners, interviews, Internet rumors) gradually develops into something more powerfully mysterious: a close meditation on time and how one comes to terms with its passage.
