Murder + Kidnapping Suspect James Calvert Brought Back to East Texas
James Calvert, 41, is now jailed in Smith County after Tyler Police officers traveled to Monroe, La., to bring the suspect back to Tyler, where he faces a capital murder charge.
Calvert, who is accused of gunning down his ex-wife and kidnapping the couple’s 4-year-old son, was arrested in West Monroe, La., after an Amber Alert was issued.
30-year old Jelena Radovanovic Sriraman was shot to death at her Tyler home on Oct. 31.
4-year-old Lucas Calvert was found safe, in the back seat of the car Calvert was driving.
Police in West Monroe pulled Calvert over after he took off from police during a routine traffic stop. A short high-speed chase ensued and police had to break a car window to get him out of the car.
Several weapons were recovered by officers at the scene.
Calvert is being held on a $25 million bond.
