Noted actor, model and erstwhile Funky Bunch member Mark Wahlberg raised a few eyebrows in 2012 when he claimed that had he boarded the planes used for the September 11 terrorist attacks, things would have gone down a little differently. Suggesting that you could have singlehandedly prevented the most traumatic disaster in American history is big talk, but now Wahlberg will get the chance to pretend to put the money where his terrorist-fighting mouth is with Patriots Day, a dramatization of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. We may be too late for a Mark Wahlberg-led United 93 reimagined as a two-hour beatdown, but this looks like the next best thing.

With everyone obsessed with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, very few people noticed the other huge hit of December: the Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg comedy Daddy’s Home. Very quietly, this film about the rivalry between a square stepdad (Ferrell) and a supercool biological father (Wahlberg) grossed more than $150 million in the U.S. and $240 million worldwide. The movie made $70 million more than The Other Guys, the first film that paired Ferrell and Wahlberg together as mismatched buddies, and it was Ferrell’s biggest comedy since Elf back in 2003. Daddy’s Home was a bigger success than the first Anchorman or Talladega Nights (or any Adam McKay / Will Ferrell movie, for that matter).

Open mouth, insert foot. That seemingly seems to be the regimen of actor Mark Wahlberg these days. His recent statements in an interview with Men's Journal have stirred up quite the controversy regarding himself and the deceased passengers of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on United Flight 93.
