Swiss researchers say new technology that interacts with smartphones could revolutionize the treatment of heart patients.
The device in question consists of four electrode sensors attached to the skin and linked to a radio module and computer chip that clips onto a patient’s belt. Data from the device is sent to a smartphone and can be viewed in real-time for up to 150 hours on a single charge. Any abnormalities are sent to a doctor via text or email with a picture attachment.
Who knew — there’s a reason why most computer voices are female.
In fact, there are several reasons.
After an almost two-year investigation, the Federal Communications Commission said Monday it had reached an agreement with most of the nation’s cell carriers that should protect consumers from “bill shock” — unexpected increases in a monthly wireless bill.
Apple’s highly-anticipated ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ event on Tuesday began with newly-installed CEO Tim Cook reflecting on some of the company’s successes, as well as one new one: the new iPhone.

Although most scientists believe the electromagnetic radiation emitted by technology such as Wi-Fi and cell phones is largely harmless, a small group of people nevertheless believe they suffer from a malady called Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity, or EHS.
The five percent of Americans who think they have EHS allegedly experience such symptoms as chest pains, headaches, and hearing loss. Some of them are so convinced of the evils of electromagnetic radiation that they’ve packed up and moved to a 13,000-square-mile area of West Virginia that has no wireless technology.
There’s little more frustrating than making a trek to the grocery store, only to get home and realize you forgot something important.
Mobile service provider SK Telecom hopes to change all that with a tablet PC-equipped Smart Cart that will sync items from a grocery-list smartphone app and show you exactly what you need to get. The WiFi-connected tablet even uses GPS to display product info and discounts while you shop, and makes recommendations based on past purchases.
While researchers are reluctant to call idebenone a cure for blindness, the drug has restored the vision of some people who suffer from hereditary blindness in a recent clinical study.
Eventually, your car options may not be limited to just choices about color, transmission or even GPS. If Toyota has its way, you’ll also be mulling over interactive window features.
These futuristic pieces of glass, called “Windows to the World,” will be far more than just a way to watch the miles fly by. They’ll also be a drawing tablet, learning device, and distance tracker — not to mention mind-blowingly cool.
After a successful trial run using touchscreen phones and tablets in combat, US Army officials say they may begin equipping service members with the devices later this year. It would be used to complement tactical radios and other existing technology.
Smartphones can be used to text updates about surroundings, send GPS photos, and access maps. “When they have a problem or need to submit a report, they default to the texting. These young soldiers grew up with this technology. They’re very familiar with it. They’re very comfortable with it,” said Michael McCarthy, an Army director for the program.
Like the robot maid, the flying car is part of our 'Jetsons'-promised future that has yet to materialize.
But that could change soon. Last month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration granted the Transition Roadable Aircraft a series of special exemptions, effectively making the plane-car hybrid street-legal.
