Wade Hayes Tumor Free Following Surgery and Chemotherapy for Colon Cancer

Wade Hayes
Lee Baird

After a successful surgery for his battle with stage IV colon cancer in December, Wade Hayes is finally on the right side of recovery. The ‘Old Enough to Know Better’ and ‘I’m Still Dancin’ With You’ hitmaker has spent two months getting chemotherapy treatment and is now seeing the results his friends, family and fans have been praying for since news of his illness broke late last year.

“I am very happy to say as of now I am tumor free and getting stronger every day,” Hayes told Taste of Country exclusively, after having his most recent scan performed at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Just a few weeks before Christmas, Hayes underwent surgery for the colon cancer and came out better than even the doctors had expected. While he has faced both good and bad days since making the announcement about his cancer, Hayes is finally feeling like he’s on the right track to a full recovery. “Thank you all so much for the prayer and well wishes,” he said softly.

The singer still has four more months of chemo to complete his treatment. Hayes is scheduled to make his first public performance next week (March 6) at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville as part of the fourth-annual Stars Go Blue for Colon Cancer benefit. Also appearing will be Trace Adkins, Exile, GAC’s Nan Kelly and her husband, Charlie. For tickets and information on the show, or to make a contribution to the cause, click here.
