Wintery Weather in North Texas
TEXARKANA — A wintery mix is making travel slow today for motorist on Interstate 30 between Dallas and Texarkana. The Department of Public Safety says some ice has formed on bridges and overpasses in Bowie County and several spots along the interstate. The Tyler-Longview areas will just see rain; no wintery mix is expected in the immediate area.
Missing Pilot’s Body Found at Lake Palestine
LAKE PALESTINE — Anderson County Authorities recovered the body of a pilot missing since his plane went down in Lake Palestine last week. The body of 85-year-old Fred Scholz of Anderson County was found early Saturday morning on the rocks of the Lake Palestine Dam. Scholz was reported missing Wednesday after taking off that day in his single-engine plane from a Jacksonville fueling station.
Fort Worth Girl Found Safe
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An 11 year old Fort Worth girl who went missing nearly a week ago has been found safe in Northern New Mexico. WFAA in Dallas reports that Jessica Smith was found Sunday with her mother, 42 year old Kimberly Smith who is accused of abducting Jessica. Law officers acting on a tip found Jessica and her mother in a car near Tres Piedras, New Mexico. Jessica was in good spirits while her mother appeared to be lethargic ,according to New Mexico State police. Smith will be extradited to Fort Worth on two felony warrants, aggravated assault and endangering a child.
Toxicology Results Could Take Weeks for Whitney Houston Case
LOS ANGELES — It could be weeks before investigators know exactly how Whitney Houston died. The Grammy award winner was found dead Saturday in a bathtub in her Beverly Hills hotel room. A coroner conducted an autopsy on the 48-year-old, but it could be weeks before toxicology results are in.
Adele Takes Home Six Grammy Awards
LOS ANGELES — At the Grammys last night, Adele took home six trophies. The soulful singer wins included song and album of the year for “21.” It was last year’s top-selling album. Her victories tie her with Beyonce as the most wins by a woman in one evening.

LONGVIEW — The deadline to take care of an outstanding city warrant is approaching and Longview area residents are urged to take advantage of the opportunity to clear any overdue citations. Taking care of the outstanding warrants prior to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 could mean not spending the night in the Gregg County Jail and saving the embarrassment of being arrested in the future.
When Will Texas Hold Primary Elections?
AUSTIN — Three federal judges in San Antonio will soon start resolving one of the great political mysteries of the year: When will Texas hold primary elections and what will the congressional and legislative districts look like? Texas was supposed to take part in Super Tuesday on March 6, but federal judges have blocked maps drawn by the Legislature. Minority groups say they are discriminatory. Now the state is waiting for three federal judges in San Antonio to draft temporary political maps. The court will hear arguments on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Pastor’s Daughter Killed by Stray Bullett
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Authorities in St. Petersburg, Fla. say the daughter of a pastor was accidentally killed at church Sunday when a gun went off. Investigators say a man was showing his gun to another church member interested in buying it, but didn’t know there was a bullet in the chamber. The gun went off and fired through a wall at Grace Connection Church, striking 20-year-old Hannah Kelley in the head.
GE Expanding Aviation Business
WASHINGTON — General Electric says it’s initiating a big hiring plan involving veterans and expanding its aviation business. GE says the “Hire Our Heroes” partnership will help match 5,000 veterans with jobs over the next five years, while its aviation unit will add more than 400 new manufacturing jobs and open three new plants next year.
