Summer is always a popular time for highly-anticipated movies to be released, and 2013 is no exception. Check out these movies during the first part of summer.

The hype for movies each summer tends to escalate steadily until the midnight premiere, and if the movie is good enough to the initial audience, the hype will continue to build. Don't let your summer slip by without seeing at least a few of these highly-anticipated films:

Yes, this film has already been released (and I may or may not have gone to see it twice already), but it is worth going to see. F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel comes to life in a whole new way in the film. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire star in this modern twist on the 1920s lifestyle. I would give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars.

In this third film of the Iron Man Series, Robert Downey Jr. gives an incredible performance. The hype for this movie is absolutely amazing, and for good reason - in my opinion, it was the best of the Iron Man movies. The combination of comedy, action and romance in the story was balanced perfectly, making it a must see for the summer.

The Fast and Furious team is expected to keep the series going in this new film. 'Vehicular warfare' seems to be an understatement for the intensity of action that takes place in this film. The film will be released this weekend, so if you're looking for something to do for Memorial Day, check it out.

This may be one of the most highly-anticipated movies of the summer. After the first two hilarious films in the trilogy, this one has a lot to live up to. With a new plot and the same fantastic cast (Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galianakis and Justin Bartha, as if you could forget them). Make sure to check this film out this weekend as well!

This new sci-fi film featuring Will Smith and his son Jaden is sure to bring in a crowd this weekend as well. Taking place 1,000 years after the forced removal of humanity from Earth, this father-son duo crash landed and must find their way back home. Check it out on May 31.

This star-studded cast, Morgan Freeman and Isla Fisher included, presents a thriller about illusionists who reward their audiences with heisted money from their performances. Coming to theaters May 31, it's a summer must-see.

If you're looking for a good laugh this summer, it's probably not a bad idea to go see this film on June 7. Starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, it's practically guaranteed to be entertaining, especially if they are interning at Google in the film. Personally, this might be the movie of the summer that I am most looking forward too.

Don't forget that these films are only a few of the summer releases for this year, and there will be more releasing later in the summer as well! If you're looking for an air-conditioned summer activity, consider the movies!
