Some pretty powerful storms moved through East Texas last Friday and left quite a bit of damage and destruction in its wake. The citizens of Palestine are banding together and forming clean up brigades to assist their friends, family and neighbors with the clean up process (something that could take a while).

As many residents of an East Texas neighborhood slept, the heavy rains in East Texas on Friday caused a creek to rise and overflow its banks.  In a matter of minutes, an entire neighborhood was submerged in water and mud. Witnesses indicate that within moments water that had been waist high suddenly reached the roofs of houses in the 100 block of Timber Lane in Palestine...

Officials in East Texas are still assessing the damage caused by last night's round of storms and the flooding that followed.

A grandmother and her four grandchildren, all under the age of 9, were victims of the flooding last night in Palestine. According to authorities, 6 to 10 homes in a Palestine neighborhood were severely damaged following the heavy rainfall and ensuing flooding which began just after midnight...

Rain has stopped and it's nice and warm but the flooding needs a couple more days to clear out.

Much of the flood waters in Kilgore, Henderson and Longview's residential areas have receded leaving behind a wet and muddy disaster in homes throughout the cities. The clean up effort is already underway and with dryer weather on the horizon, it'll kick into high gear this weekend.

The power of water is amazing. The devastation that flood waters cause is unimaginable. East Texans are unfortunately living through this unimaginable experience right now. Entire neighborhoods in Kilgore, Henderson and Longview were submerged by flood waters Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Now that most of the flood water has receded, it's time for cleanup.

Not only are the flood waters causing damage to businesses and homes in East Texas, but are also bringing wild animals out that we normally wouldn't see.

Harrison County has seen its fare share of rain over the last couple of days causing massive flooding throughout the county. Flood waters have washed out several culverts and bridges throughout the county causing county officials to issue mandatory evacuation orders for identified low lying areas of the county.
