If someone were to ask me if Texas is a safe place to live, without hesitation I would say yes. I love living in the lone star state there is so much to do and see. There is natural beauty all around us and the people here are so friendly for the most part. But there is new data that is saying my opinion is all wrong, in fact according to WalletHub, the state of Texas was almost last when it came up with the results for the safest states in America.

As a Texas resident I wanted to know what kind of formula they used when coming up with these statistics because I don’t believe that the rankings for Texas are accurate. When looking at the WalletHub methodology they looked at 5 key metrics including: personal and residential safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness. All of those things I think Texas does well, except financial safety, but we’re all being hit by inflation numbers right now.

Just How Bad Did Texas Do in the Rankings

When ranking all 50 U.S. states, Texas came in #47. The only three states that were found to be less safe then Texas are very close in proximity to us. Arkansas came in at 48, Mississippi at 49, and Louisiana at 50.

I Wish Texas Would Clean This Up

Living in Texas is something that I love, although I do wish we could get one thing cleaned up. It seems like every sporting event like Dallas Cowboys games or big events like the State Fair of Texas, there always seem to be videos that go viral showing people fighting. It would be nice for people to not get the impression that Texans always love to fight. As that is not the case, and we all know that fighting happens everywhere.

What about you, do you feel like Texas is a safe place to live?
