CORRECTION 4/11: Bruce Pessink is alive and well. Below the line that reads: "Last August, we learned that Weinerland would close following the death of its owners Bruce and Mary Pessink, who had owned and operated the restaurant for more than 45 years," is incorrect. Bruce's brother David was the previous owner who is now deceased.

I would like to personally apologize to Bruce and his entire family. In my haste to share the exciting news that this beloved local restaurant would soon re-open, I neglected to double check the name of the previous owner, and have since caused the Pessink family a great deal of anguish.

I'm profoundly sorry to have caused this pain, and wish to convey my sincerest apology to the family. Bruce Pessink is the owner of another local business, PESSINK'S TCB Handgun Liscense to Carry Tyler and East Texas. He is alive and well.

UPDATED 3/28 10:10 AM: Weinerland will be back in May! Two Tyler families have signed a lease to reopen the Tyler favorite.

Lindsey and Michael and Harrison have teamed up with friends, Ashely and John Feldman, and are bringing the dogs back with the family recipes you know and love.

Lindsey Harrison told the Tyler Morning Telegraph, "What I really remember is the chili cheese dogs ,” she said. “And we have the chili recipe. We’ll be bringing back the old favorites, and adding some new things as well. We’ll be bringing in new varieties."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We don't have all the details yet, but we're excited to learn that Tyler's favorite hot dog stand across from Tyler Junior College is set to re-open under new ownership soon.

According to the Tyler Morning Telegraph, the story is still developing, but I've seen posts from friends on Facebook that indicate that they will be opening in May.

Lately, I've been craving a chili dog and wished that Weinerland was still in operation, so this news is music to my ears.

Last August, we learned that Weinerland would close following the death of its owners Bruce and Mary Pessink, who had owned and operated the restaurant for more than 45 years.

By the way, if you've seen 'Wienerland' spelled 'Weinerland', it's because their Facebook page spells it one way, and the sign at the restaurant is spelled the other!
