Man Sets New Catfish Record Deep in the Heart of Texas

Blake Gentry set the new a lake record with his gigantic catfish caught on Twin Buttes Reservoir near San Angelo.
The flathead catfish weighed 73.35 pounds and was 53 inches long.
“This is the biggest fish I have ever caught,” Gentry said.
Well no kidding, Blake!
While it is a huge catfish, from the look of things, I hope Blake wasn’t in a rush to get the oil heated up for a fish fry. Where I come from, unless it’s a Channel or Blue Cat, it’s not good eats.
The state record flathead catfish was actually caught in our own backyard. James Laster hooked a 98.5-pound catfish on Lake Palestine in 1998 — with a minnow, for Pete’s sake.
