Scotty McCreery fans still have a little over a month to wait until the ‘American Idol’ winner graces store shelves with his debut album, ‘Clear as Day.’ But in the meantime, he’s on the road with this year’s ‘AI’ tour — and sharing a few tidbits about what we can expect to hear from the finished product.

And as it turns out, he might end up having at least one famous guest.

“It’s going to be all originals,” McCreery told the Boston Globe recently before backpedaling a little. “There’s technically going to be one cover. Keith Urban pitched a song my way, and it’s one he did way back when he was part of the band called the Ranch. He’s on tour right now so we don’t know, but he said he might play guitar on the track.”

Whether or not Urban shows up to lay down a solo on his song, McCreery says the album will present a multi-faceted picture of who he is as an artist. “We’ve got the rocker songs, the uptempo stuff,” he promised. “But when we slow it down, the songs get more intimate, and you can definitely hear some of the more classic elements.”

And ‘classic’ was definitely the goal for McCreery, who says the old country sounds are all he needs. “It’s not going to be poppy. That’s one thing we stayed away from. I grew up with the old-school stuff, so I didn’t want to completely stray from that.”

‘Clear as Day’ is slated to go on sale October 4.
