‘To Grunt Or Not To Grunt?’ That Is The Question in Tennis [VIDEO]
If you're a tennis fan than you know about "tennis grunting." Tennis grunting is when the tennis players grunt every time they hit the ball. Maria Sharapova is probably the " grunter supreme," but she is actually in support of a ban for women's tennis. Maria's grunts have actually been measured at more than 101 decibels, which is comparable to a chain saw. Maria told Reuters in response to the ban:
"Bottom line is the right answer has been taken by the tour.I started grunting since whenever I can remember. I see videos of myself and I've grunted for that long. Nobody told me to do it in Russia or in Florida. It's just a natural habit."
The Women's Tennis Association, WTA, is considering the ban, which would require umpires to have hand-held devices that can measure the noise on the court. The WTA says the ban is necessary because of so many complaints from fans and "non-grunting" competitors.
Do you agree with the WTA that grunting is distracting or do you think it's just apart of the sport?
