Kiddie beauty shows are already controversial, what with the poofy gowns and layers of makeup, but one mom may have taken pageant-crazy to the extreme on a recent episode of the TLC series ‘Toddlers & Tiaras.’ In fact, Lindsay Jackson might actually lose custody of her 6-year-old daughter, Maddy, thanks in part to a Dolly Parton costume, which included padding the little girl’s behind and chest to ‘enhance’ her lady parts to be more like the country singer’s notorious bust and rear.

Maddy’s parents are locked in a custody battle fighting for her, and her father, Bill Verst, is using his outrage at the Dolly Parton outfit to accuse his ex-wife of being an unfit parent. According to Nashville Gab, a Kentucky court-appointed psychologist is even taking the husband’s side. The psychologist has cited not only Maddy’s participation in pageants as emotionally damaging, but he particularly noted that the getup which copied one of Parton’s looks from years back as a problem.

For now, Jackson and Verst will share custody of the little girl, but her father has been granted residential custody. To combat the claims that she’s ill-fit as a mother, Jackson reportedly compared her daughter not being allowed to participate in pageants to courts telling gold medal-winning gymnasts that they can’t compete in the Olympics.

“If [the judge decides] that Maddy needs to live with her dad because she does pageants with me, then that opens the door for any parent to challenge anybody on an activity that a kid does, period,” Jackson said. “We could really open up Pandora’s Box to set a precedent all over the world. What if years ago Gabby Douglas’ father said, ‘She’s not going to be a gymnast. She’s not going to move away from home and practice gymnastics because I won’t allow it,’ and he and Gabby’s mother got into a fight? We wouldn’t have gold medal winners, we wouldn’t have Miss America, we wouldn’t have Miss USA.”

The next hearing in the custody case will take place on Aug. 31. We have a feeling that even Parton herself  would agree that her stage outfits are something reserved for adults — and only ones who can pull it off, at that.
